News about the GPD Win Max has been quiet since April, but a host of leaked photos give a better look at the 8-inch handheld. Dual-fans, a larger keyboard, a PlayStation Vita style d-pad and even a trackpad? One-Netbook and Smach better take notice.

News about the GPD Win Max has been thin on the ground lately, with leaked images of the device last appearing almost two and a half months ago. Previously, photos of a mock-up of the device and what looks like a prototype motherboard with its embedded AMD Ryzen APU have appeared online. The former garnered some criticism, principally because of the keyboard and gamepad layout.

It appears that the company has listened, with it switching to a smaller 5-row layout. However, a new photo posted on the GPD Discord group and Reddit show that GPD is persisting with placing the gamepad buttons at the top of the device. While this placement will make it easier to type on the keyboard than if the gamepad buttons were at the bottom edge of the top case, the device looks rather unwieldy for handheld gaming.

The Win Max also looks set to come with a PlayStation Vita style d-pad, along with a touchpad that GPD has placed between the gamepad buttons. According to u/JackFrost71, the original poster of the Reddit thread, the Win Max will feature the same keyboard as the P2 Max. Elsewhere, a separate leaked photo shows that GPD is planning to cool the embedded Ryzen APU in the Win Max with two small fans, which will push waste heat out the back of the device. The fan grilles will sit above the HDMI port, microSD card reader and two USB ports, one of which will be Type-C.

There is no wording on pricing or availability yet. However, we suspect that it will be more expensive than the recently refreshed Win 2, which features a 2-inch smaller display than the Win Max. In short, expect the Win Max to cost at least US$800.
