A new leak purports that the juicy upgrades coming with the new Fujifilm X100VI camera will come with a price increase. Allegedly, the updated compact rangefinder-style camera will now cost about the same as the flagship X-T5 or a Fujifilm X-S20 and a kit lens — still less than some sellers wanted for the X100V.

While Fujifilm's X100V started life as a moderately-priced compact rangefinder-style camera, its online popularity quickly pushed it well above MSRP, with some sellers asking over $2,000. Fast-forward to today, with the Fujifilm X100VI well on its way, with a February 20 launch basically confirmed alongside a handful of substantial upgrades. The latest leak out of FujiRumors, though, is that the Fujifilm X100VI will cost as much as 13% more than its predecessor.

The leak puts the Fujifilm X100VI at $1,599 in the US and €1,799 in Europe. While this is still less than the X100V was going for at the height of its popularity, it's still a sizeable price hike. The Fujifilm X100V launched at an MSRP of $1,399.

Although the X100VI is set to retain the same sharp 23 mm f/2.0 lens as its progenitor, the X100VI should see the compact camera become more video-friendly and more capable as a whole. The leaked specs for the Fujifilm X100VI include the 40 MP X-Trans CMOS 5 sensor and the X-Processor 5, which is slated to bring significant upgrades to video and photo performance, especially with regard to autofocus and low-light scenarios.

It remains to be seen, however, how the X100VI slots into the larger Fujifilm line-up. After all, the cheaper Fujifilm X-S20 (curr. $1,399 with an XC15–45 mm kit lens on Amazon) is only slightly bigger — on the order of 10 mm thicker and 12 mm longer — than the X100VI is expected to be, and it is plenty capable, with the added bonus of an interchangeable lens mount. Paired with a Fujifilm XF23 mm F2 R WR lens (curr. $449 on Amazon), you're most of the way to an X100VI for around the same price.

Fujifilm is also expected to launch an X-Pro4 and potentially an X-E5, although the fate of the latter somewhat hangs in the balance, giving Fujifilm lovers even more retro-inspired options to choose from.
