Diablo III: Reaper of Souls randomly turns up for free on the Xbox Live Gold service
It has been reported that Diablo III: Reaper of Souls is currently available for free via the Xbox Marketplace. Gamers who have an Xbox Live Gold subscription can apparently play the Diablo III expansion for free, although there is some debate about it being either a temporary situation or even a fortunate glitch. August’s Games with Gold free titles from Microsoft have already been revealed as Darksiders III, Rock of Ages 3: Make & Break, and Lost Planet 3 - there was no mention of a Diablo title.
News about the free availability of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls, which was released in 2014 and is currently available with 2012’s Diablo III as part of the Ultimate Evil Edition collection, was shared on Reddit by u/Lucaz82 before being further investigated and confirmed by sources such as MP1ST and Cheap Ass Gamer. Reaper of Souls was highly praised upon its release, especially for its dark and brooding atmosphere and involved gameplay.
However, many gamers have not been so pleased about the apparent present free nature of Diablo III: Reaper of Souls on the Xbox Live Gold service – mainly because of the unpalatable controversies that surround its developer Blizzard Entertainment (a division of Activision Blizzard). Among other things, the company is facing a lawsuit filed by the California Department of Fair Employment and Housing based on allegations of endemic sexual harassment and gender discrimination at the workplace.
