The Dell XPS 17 9700 is a return to the 17-inch market for the XPS series, and it packs a punch. Featuring up to a Core i9-10885H processor, 64 GB of DDR4 RAM, a 4 TB SSD, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, the XPS 17 9700 is a big upgrade over the XPS 15 7590. Starting at US$1,499.99, the XPS 17 9700 features Dell's latest advanced cooling features too and retain the 97 Wh battery of previous XPS 15 models.

The XPS 17 9700 is here, and it marks a new era for the XPS series. Featuring a 4-sided InfinityEdge 17-inch display, the XPS 17 9700 is not only the smallest 17-inch laptop, but it is also smaller than most 15-inch laptops. Unquestionably the most powerful XPS laptop ever, the XPS 17 9700 is the first in the series to feature an optional GeForce RTX 20 GPU. Dell has equipped the XPS 17 9700 with Comet Lake-H processors too, as is customary for a multimedia laptop released this year.

The innovations do not stop there, either. Dell has also integrated an advanced cooling system that will, hopefully, overcome the cooling issues of past generations of the XPS 15. The cooling system comprises of two elements, the primary of which being Dell's Dual Opposite Outlet fans. According to Dell, "the uniquely designed" dual opposite outlet fans increase fan airflow by approximately 30% compared to past XPS solutions. The fans drive cooling airflow in both directions that Dell claims should result in more airflow overall and improved skin temperatures. Along with these dual fans, the XPS 17 9700 also has a massive vapor chamber cooling system that spans the entire width of the laptop. Speaking of airflow, there are hidden exhaust vents in the hinge of the machine too, along with a slight ramp that aids in lifting more heat out.

Moreover, Dell has included a sensor that allows the XPS 17 9700 to power up in milliseconds, regardless of the power-state in which it has been left. It is unclear how this works, but it seems like an effort to mitigate the sleep issues that some older XPS 15 machines have experienced. The XPS 17 9700 features a fingerprint scanner and an infrared camera for Windows Hello facial recognition.

The XPS 17 9700 will be available from this summer and will start at US$1,499.99. Dell is yet to disclose further information about pricing or availability, though.
