The Dell XPS 15 for 2019 fixes the laptop’s most blatant flaw – the webcam placement – but doesn’t change much more than this beyond some updated components. This feels like a wasted opportunity to place Dell’s flagship 15-inch laptop in line with the rest of its redesigned XPS range.

Power, I need more power! The iteration of the Dell XPS 2019 is a workhorse of the highest caliber. Inside that stylish, 0.7-inch thick aluminum chassis lies an overclockable Intel Core i9 processor, speedy 1TB m.2 NVMe PCIe SSD and an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 GPU, effectively giving consumers premium good looks with workstation-caliber power. And speaking of good looks, you can configure this bad boy with a spectacular 4K OLED display, which makes just about anything look great. And at $2,249, it's thousands of dollars less than a tricked-out Apple MacBook Pro ($6,549).

Review: Dell's XPS 15 7590 reaches for 8 cores of CPU power
Source: Good Gear Guide English Archive.org version
The Dell XPS 15 7590 takes an interesting position among laptops. The top-end CPU and GPU options say "gaming," and we’ve seen these parts scream—when installed in a 10.5-pound gaming laptop (13.5 pounds with the power brick.) In this tiny little 4.2-pound Dell, though? No. But you’re also not dragging around several barbells' worth of weight every time you need to get work done in the field.

The new XPS 15 sees Dell’s flagship laptop get some much-needed new parts. A powerful processor, big battery, the option of up to 64GB of RAM and the choice between LCD and OLED displays mean that if you want a performance machine for writing and everyday work, you’re sorted, but if you’re after something for creative work, you might be golden here too – provided you can afford the 4K OLED option.

86.3% Dell XPS 15 7590 Laptop Review: Is the base model with Core i5 and FHD panel sufficient? | Notebookcheck
Dell is one of the few manufacturers that also offers its 15-inch premium notebook without a dedicated graphics card. Is the version with the integrated GPU perhaps even the better choice if you don't want to use your laptop for gaming?

Dell XPS 15 7590 9980HK GTX 1650

Dell has been investing their time and resources into some major improvisation efforts on past laptop model installments after listening to the people’s pleas. With more room for improvement comes high expectations, and Dell does not disappoint at all with their newest updates on the Dell XPS 15 7590 laptop model which had been previously launched beforehand. This seemingly outdated entry has experienced a thorough resurgence in order to remain inherently competent and relevant in this so-called decade of the millennials. Without any doubt, the prospect of what the newest rendition of the Dell XPS 15 7590 has to offer remains ever exciting to the public eye. The Dell XPS 15 7590 basks in its resurgence through a proper addressing of the undesirable positioning of the front webcam in which it has gained notoriety for mainly being focused on the user’s nose rather than their overall appearance. This has been thoroughly addressed through a slight repositioning of the aforementioned camera and the Dell XPS 15 7590 is now properly optimized in accordance to the public’s demand. The front webcam for the updated version of the Dell XPS 15 7590 can now be pinpointed on the center along the top edge of the device’s 15.6 inches screen instead of the bottom. Moreover, repositioning is not the only upgrade to be seen on the Dell XPS 15 7590’s webcam – a new 4-element lens is integrated into the webcam, which is more than capable of delivering sharp video in all areas of frame which works in tandem with temporal noise reduction to cancel out environmental noises. This can be easily regarded as one of the wisest marketing move that Dell has ever made for their laptop models especially when improvements on older models are concerned. In addition, several other notable upgrades that can be found on the Dell XPS 15 7590 are the core components that are integrated to power this device. The updated version of the Dell XPS 15 7590 laptop model now comes equipped with the 9th generation Intel Core i9-9980HK processor as well as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 1650 graphics card. Both of these components excel in what they do. The Intel Core i9-9980HK, for instance, has recorded an official clocked speed up to a shocking 5 GHz. A clock speed of up to 5 GHz can be regarded as stellar since nearly no other laptop model within the same spectrum or price range can achieve a performance rate of such capacity. Not only that, the GeForce RTX 1650 makes it all the better in the rendering of graphics, which further accelerate the performance of content creation programs, which are specifically designed for video editing, graphic design, animation, and the like. 80% Dell XPS 15 (2019) review: The near-perfect Windows laptop
Source: India Today English Archive.org version
If you are willing to invest Rs 2.2 lakhs in a laptop, you expect to have little to no compromises on most fronts, whether it be the display, battery life or performance. The XPS 15 manages to keep the compromises to a bare minimum like its predecessors and encourages the user to use it more as a tool. The 4K OLED display is easily the best laptop display my eyes have feasted on while the performance is superlative. The dedicated Nvidia GPU is powerful enough to help with rigorous video and photo editing while the long battery encourages you to go without the cord for the day. The design might be a bit understated but for those mean business, the XPS has just the right amount of flair and appeal to make you smug while flaunt it on the table.

The Dell XPS 15 (7590) physically remains unchanged from the XPS 15 of 2018. Literally, the only thing that’s changed is the webcam's placement, but other than that, the physical dimensions and even port placement remain identical. We don’t mind that. What’s significantly improved is the thermal performance which lets the Intel Core i9 powered machine flex a little more muscle before hitting thermal throttling. Undervolt the CPU and you get even more sustained performance, albeit at the cost of the turbo speeds, but that’s okay. The new XPS 15 manages to be a computer that’s great for travellers thanks to its slim form-factor, for business people thanks to its good looks and even for content creators thanks to the powerful hardware on the inside.

But before I buy my next Dell XPS 15, I want to see this aging design replaced with a new one. Not a thinner laptop or one with fewer full-size ports, as manufacturers typically tend to do — those are fine as they are. But I wouldn’t mind a lighter laptop, one that boots faster, with a second Thunderbolt 3 port on the other side of the laptop for charging, and a thermal design that can actually keep a Core i9 and game-capable GPU cool. Maybe a carbon-fiber-coated magnesium alloy frame for less heft? I’d gladly take an RTX 2060-class chip as well.

One thing we unfortunately don’t have here is a frame rate trace. Certainly frame rates dropped, but we suspect it’s not the impact you'd assume going from, say, 2.6GHz to 1.6GHz. Given the GeForce GTX 1650's moderate horsepower, a drop from 70 fps to 55 fps doesn’t really change the experience much.

So how does the XPS 15 7590 measure up against the competition? The two systems with specs closest to it are probably HP’s Spectre 360 15 and Apple’s MacBook Pro. While the Spectre 360 15 reportedly offers slightly better color reproduction than the XPS 15, it utilizes older (8th gen) Core processors, fewer memory and storage options and a smaller (84 WHr) battery.

The XPS 15 (2019) is another example of Dell’s ability to deliver top-tier laptops. It looks great, it feels great, it certainly has an amazing set of displays to choose from. However, when you go back in time, you will see that these things all remain unchanged for a third or fourth year in a row.

80% Dell XPS 15 7590 Review (OLED, i7-9750H, GTX 1650)
Source: Ultrabook Review English Archive.org version
With much-improved GPU performance and a sensible webcam location, the XPS 15 7590 makes a case for itself against competitors like the ThinkPad X1 Extreme or P1 with its good looks and lower price. However, due to quality-control issues and technology limitations, the OLED display is somewhat less compelling than the FHD and UHD IPS options, in my opinion.

Hands on: Dell XPS 15 (2019) review
Source: Techradar English Archive.org version
The Dell XPS 15 for 2019 fixes the laptop’s most glaring flaw – the webcam placement – but doesn’t change much more than this beyond some upgraded components. This feels like a missed opportunity to bring Dell’s flagship 15-inch laptop in line with the rest of its redesigned XPS range.
