BlackBerry Z30

If you still have not moved on from the Blackberry space, the Z30 might be the device to have your eye on. It looks like your regular rectangle-slab that most smartphones look like these days. It comes equipped with a 5-inch 720p HD resolution display. While it might not be as sharp or as bright as other flagship handsets, it gives great viewing angles and high contrast. It has also the largest screen in Blackberry’s arsenal currently.

Like its predecessors, Blackberry is moving away from its famed physical keyboards in favor of touchscreen ones for the Z30. At its core, it's housing a 1.7 GHz Snapdragon Pro processor and a Adreno 320 GPU. It's accompanied by 2 GB of RAM; the specs are comparable to other flagship devices out there and it provides a speedy performance whilst running the latest Blackberry OS with the Z30. It also comes with a microSD slot to expand your storage.

On the back, the 8 MP camera with LED flash is the same as their previous Z10 and Q10 models'. The Time Shift feature will take multiple shots for you so that you can choose the best shot later. It also comes with an HDR mode. Probably the best feature is its battery life. The Z30’s 2880mAh battery claims to give you 25 hours of mixed use. This means that the Z30 can last an entire day before needing a charge.

If you are in the market for a Blackberry, it's no rocket science that the Z30 is the best offering out there now.

From 10 to 30 within a year. After the Z10's launch, the Canadian manufacturer takes a shot with its new Z30 model. BlackBerry uses hardware and software from the same source - thus meeting the demands on both is all the more difficult a task.
Powerful Passport is great for business, but the BlackBerry Z30 is now a bargain smartphone

If you are looking to save money on a decent smartphone you could do a lot worse than the BlackBerry Z30. It is a decent 5in handset at a very good price. But if you want a BlackBerry that is truly fit for business, and you are able to spend on a full flagship smartphone, the BlackBerry Passport is a truly fascinating and powerful device. Just have a go with one first to make sure it is for you.

There isn't the app ecosystem of the big two competitors but we can see the BlackBerry Z30 as a useful compromise of the needs of businesses that rely on BlackBerry's security model, and users who'd like something with the touchscreen power of iPhone-based handsets. This big handset deserves to win friends from anyone that can value its secure and robust features.

The inherent security benefits of BES10 and BB10 mean for pure business use the Z30 is a very solid, albeit costly option. However, as we found with the Z10, as a BYOD device, its consumer offering is significantly less developed than competing ecosystems', like Android and iOS. This, combined with the fact the Z30 offers at best comparable and at times worse internal specifications than similarly priced Google and Apple smartphones, makes it hard to recommend the Z30 for anything but pure work use.

After spending a good week with the Z30, we find that it’s nothing more than an iterative update to the Z10, with a larger display. There are some welcome hardware additions like better sound, Wi-Fi Direct and bigger battery but most of the changes are software based so the asking price of Rs 39,990 seems a lot. With the Z10 now selling at a more sensible price, we fail to see why one would spend such a premium on the Z30, also considering one can get the G2 or the S4 in the same price range. Both flagships have a vastly bigger feature set, are more powerful and have access to a better app ecosystem. The Z30 makes a good buy if the price drops to about Rs 30,000 but for now, it’s too expensive, even for enterprise users.

Hands on: BlackBerry Z30 review
Source: Techradar English Archive.org version
The BlackBerry Z30 appears to be a capable, if unappealing smartphone, although it's never going to try and win the hearts of the masses. BlackBerry's core focus now is on the business sector and while consumer sales will continue to trickle through, most people will walk straight past the Z30 as they eye up the cheaper HTC One and Galaxy S4 or shiny new iPhone 5S. We're not sure this is the big hitter we were hoping for when making a sequel for the Z10, and while the Z30 ups the power this could be one of the final devices we see from BlackBerry in its current guise.

BlackBerry Z3

BlackBerry has been in the mobile phone scene for a long time, however their presence has been slowly fading away with the arrival of many competitors. The BlackBerry Z3 aims to bring back some of its glory. However, to start things off, the BlackBerry Z3 is only available in Indonesia.

The BlackBerry Z3 may not have the most impressive hardware, but it has what it needs to provide for its users. The 1.2 GHz Qualcomm processor coupled with 1.5 GB of RAM ensures that users have lag free performance. It comes with 8 GB of native memory as well. The BlackBerry Z3 is equipped with a 2500 mAh battery that is able to keep the phone on for a full day of work.

The BlackBerry Z3 comes with all the standard connectivity for a phone such as WiFi, 3G, GPS and Bluetooth. However, it does not support 4G LTE, which makes sense as Indonesia doesn't have the infrastructure to support it anyway. The camera also falls shy with only 5 MP rear camera and 1.1 MP front facing camera. By today's standards, this is pretty low.

In short, the BlackBerry Z3 has some decent hardware overall but falls out with its low quality camera. However, keep in mind that BlackBerry has always prioritized communication over everything else, and with the BlackBerry Z3, communication is excellent.

70% BlackBerry Z3 Review: A Robust Handset For Messaging Junkies
Source: Techtree.com English Archive.org version
The BlackBerry Z3 is a well built budget device. It looks way better than most similarly priced phones. The BB 10 OS is specifically designed to please the messaging junkies. The phone offers impressive music output. On the other hand, the camera lets it down. Plus, it's not ideal for one-handed usage. What makes it a hard sell though is the company's Z10, which is now available at a similar price tag. Currently, if you're looking for a sub-15k Blackberry, the Z10 is the way to go. Once it goes out-of-stock, you can consider the Z3.

Herein lies the biggest conundrum when looking at the Z3 – the AED 899/- price. While the price is very competitive for a phone of its price range, the problem is that the previous flagship Z10 has now been reduced to a similar amount and can be found for cheaper at certain stores. So the question arises – is the Z3 worth buying over the stronger specced Z10? Well, the Z3 has a much stronger battery life and a bigger screen which certainly sounds appealing, so it’s a question of how important those two things are for you. If they are, Z3 is fantastic value. If you value more RAM and a faster processor on a smaller screen, the Z10 is a steal at its current price. BlackBerry Z3 is a successful attempt at a budget BlackBerry 10 experience and one that’s recommended to anyone looking to make the jump.

70% BlackBerry Z3 review: Good build and battery life, but a little too expensive
Source: Tech2.in.com English Archive.org version
The two reasons we would recommend the Z3 over the Z10 is if you want a larger display and longer battery life. As an overall package, the Z3 is a very tempting proposition if it drops in price. Once that happens, the Z3 makes a very good alternative to say, the Nokia XL. The slightly better specifications will ensure Android apps run a lot smoother as compared to Microsoft’s offering.

In that context, the BlackBerry Z3 is a solid phone. Comparing specifications and capabilities, it doesn't look good next to Android-based phones in its price range. On the other hand, if you value build quality, deal with hundreds of emails per day and don't have any use for multimedia features, it comes out on top. This phone delivers on the classic BlackBerry promise, finally updated for our century, for those few who still want that.

73% Blackberry shoots for the mid-range
Source: Digital Trends English Archive.org version
The BlackBerry Z3 makes a strong case for the Canadian phone maker in the mid-range segment. It steps away from BlackBerry’s usual modus operandi of pricing its phones too high and as a result it is worth recommending as a phone worth buying for Rs. 15,990, if you want a large screen, although a lower price would have made it a much better deal. At about Rs. 16,500, the Blackberry Z10 is a significantly better buy if you’re okay with its 4.2-in screen. Moving away from Blackberry, you can also consider the Motorola Moto G and the Nokia Lumia 720.

BlackBerry Classic

Returning to its roots of a physical keyboard, the BlackBerry Classic has all the right curves and features. Design is flawless with the iconic 35 key tactile keyboard supplementing the beautiful square touchscreen. The edges are rounded for comfortable in hand usage while the back is fully textured for superior grip. The 178 g device comes with a 3.5 inch 1:1 aspect ratio screen with 294 ppi. While the screen real-estate is not something to shout about, the physical keyboard supplements the need for an on-screen one. At the heart of the BlackBerry Classic is a Qualcomm MSM 8960 processor clocked at 1.5 GHz, 2 GB RAM and 16 GB internal storage. Users can increase storage up to 128 GB using a microSD card if needed. The BlackBerry Classic runs on BlackBerry 10 OS and comes with an 8 MP autofocus rear camera and a 2 MP fixed-focus front shooter. Other features include LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, A-GPS, NFC, and 3 microphones for noise cancellation. The Battery life is very good with BlackBerry claiming up to 22 hours of mixed usage powered by a 2515 mAh non-removable Lithium pack. Users who enjoy traditional BlackBerry devices with a physical keyboard will feel right at home with this device.

This is a hard product to score. If you want a smartphone with a keyboard, and you want it purely for messaging and calls, with a little web-browsing thrown in, the BlackBerry Classic is the perfect device at an excellent price. A five star product. But general smartphone users will be frustrated by the relatively low power, and the paucity of screen space. If you are a BlackBerry fan, you will love the Classic. Otherwise there are better deals elsewhere.

If you’re a die-hard BlackBerry purist and you’ve been waiting patiently to see the Bold lineup make a comeback, the Classic is the QWERTY keyboard-toting, throwback business phone you’ve been waiting for. It’s just as practical as the massive Passport, but it’s actually pocketable and BlackBerry 10 packs in plenty of nifty features. It’s not for everyone though, and its physical keyboard eats up valuable screen real estate, while software keyboards have come leaps and bounds. At £350, it’s not bad, but it won’t set the world on fire - don’t expect it to beat out the latest flagship Android blowers or the iPhone 6, either.

If you are buying a phone for content consumption, then I think you have already made a decision. Yes, the BlackBerry Classic is not for you. It is a very good option for those looking for a solid messenger phone. I prefer the Classic over the unwieldy Passport. There's no doubt that the Classic is a very good handset. However, considering that the Q10 with similar hardware is now available for Rs 24,000, the Classic's Rs 31,000 price tag seems unreasonable.

This is a phone, though, that really should have turned up a couple of years ago when Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 chip was new, in 2012 when it was recent, rather than early 2015 where it feels old and depreciated.

Passing final judgment on the BlackBerry Classic depends on one's perspective about what a smartphone should do. The handset is an excellent business device, but a long way behind the latest iOS and Android smartphones in terms of features that will appeal to regular users. With the above in mind, we must concur that BlackBerry has done a good job with the Classic. The device is targeting the corporate crowd and will tick the right boxes for its members. It is superbly built, comfortable to use, seriously looking, and full of productivity features, wrapped into a responsive, highly secure OS environment.

After years of trying to reinvent itself through various formed smartphones meant to be up with the times, as well as a new start with a totally different platform, BlackBerry finds itself in an unpredictable position – one that’s unquestionably more unstable than not. Failing to capture interest amongst consumers, who have migrated to other opposing platforms, the Classic comes off as nothing more than nostalgia. For the diehard BlackBerry user, it’s that productivity-centric device that helps users to stay busy and active when they’re away from the office, but as a consumer-end product, it fails to spark interest.

BlackBerry KeyOne

BlackBerry KeyOne is a sophisticated-looking smartphone that resurrects a physical keyboard in the modern Android era. Its tactical QWERTY keyboard offers a dose of nostalgia, while its smart and secure software gives businesses some peace of mind. It's touted as the most secure Android phone, pre-loaded with smart, enterprise-level mobile software and, at last, delivers an old-school physical keyboard within a modern enough stainless steel and faux-leather design. The easiest way to describe the KeyOne's design is that it almost looks like an elongated Passport Silver Edition. It has a similar, industrial design on the top bezel, with the aluminum broken up by the pill-shaped ambient light sensor, squircle front camera cut-out and the machined holes covering the earpiece. By today's standards, the KeyOne is a thick device. At 9.4mm, it's a full 2.3mm thicker than an iPhone 7. It's also technically heavier than both of those phones. Despite this, it doesn't feel like a hefty phone. It's well balanced and has very rounded edges on the sides and on the bottom to make it ergonomic. BlackBerry KeyOne is clearly an Android phone that has productivity users in mind. It works as an entertainment device, too, but it's not the best at it. The screen is bright and colorful, but it's 3:2 aspect ratio leaves a user with unsightly black bars on all 16:9 video. It borrows camera specs from other top-tier top phones, with a 12MP sensor.
As with all of its previous Android phones, one of the major benefits of choosing a BlackBerry is the additional software. BlackBerry Mobile adds mostly useful extras. The user gets the BlackBerry Hub, which brings in all the notifications from across apps into one useful feed. There's also the Notable app which lets the user create notes and markup images or screenshots, while the calendar app is clean and distraction-free. In the Android software, there's also an updated version of the Productivity tab that gets you easy access to calendar, reminders, unread messages and recent contacts. This lives on the right of the screen by default, but a user can switch it to the left side, and launch it by swiping the small white tab on the edge of the screen towards the center. Under the hood is Qualcomm's impressive mid-range Snapdragon 625 processor paired with 3GB of RAM. Although it is not top-of-line compared to other flagships, even so, virtually all of the transitions are quick and smooth. There's no waiting around for anything to load. The battery life on the BlackBerry KeyOne is one of the best. Thanks to making full use of Android Nougat's enhanced Doze mode, standby time uses very little of the battery's juice. What's more, having a smaller screen with fewer pixels than a traditional 1080p display helps. The 3,505mAh battery, complimented by Quick Charge capability was capable of getting to the end of a second day with moderate use.

A lot of people won't like this phone. Most will simply write it off as yet another failure from BlackBerry, a company still clinging to QWERTY keyboards and “weird” notions about “security”… But they’re wrong. This phone is unique, unusual, powerful and it has a brilliant camera and excellent user experience. I had an absolute blast testing this phone, way more than I did when using the LG G6, and when I’d finished testing it I wanted to to carry on using it.

Perhaps a wild card the BlackBerry KEYone could play might be price: make it a couple hundred bucks more affordable and you have an excellent secondary phone for the sales executive, the serial texter, or the stubborn nostalgic. But at S$858, those rushing in may be wise to sit down and work out if they are indeed dyed-in-the-wool BlackBerry fans, for this one's indeed for the fans.

The new BlackBerry KeyOne was an attempt to regain the BlackBerry fans through its physical keyboard and the taste of Android operating system. However, in terms of performance, the device lags behind the competitor’s flagship devices due to the poor choice of the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor. However, the main USP of the device is the physical keyboard and the state of the art BlackBerry security. BlackBerry also committed to providing fast and regular security updates to assure the data is secured and encrypted. If you don’t mind having a phone with a screen below 5-inches and miss having a physical keyboard, the KEYone is the perfect combination of Android and a keyboard.

Unfortunately, the KEYone's design and overall experience remain too mixed to be considered a complete offering. As such, in the recent entries of BlackBerry phones, the KEYone is perhaps one of the most underwhelming.

If you’re a big fan of the original Blackberry or you want to feel that certain urge of nostalgia coming in, then the Blackberry KeyOne is for you. This is a unique smartphone and can't really be judged as an equal with others in its price class. It clearly targets a niche, but what's unknown at this point is whether the target audience is big enough. Even if there are people who like the idea or the memory of a physical keyboard, will they be willing to accept the tradeoffs that this phone demands? In a universe of sleek metal phones with borderless screens and curved glass everywhere, the KEYone is a bit of a brute and we're not sure we would like this as our primary phones, even though we can really make use of its productivity features.

At the price of Rs 39,990, a lot of users will find the choice of the mid-range Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 a bit underwhelming. To say we were surprised is an understatement. Blackberry (along with manufacturing partner TCL) has delivered the exact device that it needed to. It melds the best parts of Blackberry – the keyboard, security, management features and build-quality – seamlessly into the latest version of Android. Even if you never use the Blackberry features, you’re left with an excellent Android phone with a very useful keyboard. This is great for those who are more focused on text-based smartphone functions than viewing photos and watching movies.

It has a great keyboard and a fantastic battery life along with a very good camera and BlackBerry’s suite of security and apps. BlackBerry KeyOne is a sophisticated-looking smartphone that resurrects a physical keyboard in the modern Android era. Its tactical QWERTY keyboard offers a dose of nostalgia, while its smart and secure software give businesses some peace of mind. Just know that the mid-range specs will only get you so far and its entertainment capabilities make this BlackBerry feel as if it clocks out at 5pm sharp when it comes to the fun stuff.

It's fortunate, then, that TCL has done such a good job building extra functionality into the keyboard and throwing in a long-lasting battery that won't force you to look for an electrical outlet just when you need the phone the most. A $549 price tag will be hard to swallow, especially when lower-cost, unlocked Android phones can match the KeyOne's performance. But the combination of BlackBerry software and hardware that makes you more productive can't be overlooked.

BlackBerry KeyOne review: BlackBerry's bold return to form
Source: Pocket Lint English Archive.org version
If there was ever a device to convince BlackBerry loyalists to jump onboard Android, the KeyOne is it. It's a more complete package than the Priv was, and is a much more compelling device than either of the two most recent all-touch phones. It might even be the device to convince older BB fans to leave their newer iPhone or Galaxy device behind.

BlackBerry and TCL have a solid device on their hands: TCL-made hardware which follows BlackBerry's legacy of physical keyboards with a security-oriented software experience. TCL and BlackBerry both received high praises after the phone was previewed to the press back during CES. Whether or not that praise will directly translate into sales is always ultimately up to the consumer.

BlackBerry KEYone Review – Productivity with a Physical Keyboard
Source: G Style Magazine English Archive.org version
For the multitasker that likes to do everything from social media to managing their emails it will be great for you. Software wise its snappy and its running the latest version of Android which some flagships aren’t. Hopefully it continues this path. Battery life is some of the best I seen on any device thanks to its huge size and midrange processor which is good but also can cause you slight delays maybe doing some gaming or having say 10-15+ apps open at once. But most of all is can you go to a keyboard? I think if you give the Blackberry KEYone some time and warm up to it you might up liking it more than you expect. Don’t forget its unlocked and should play nice with various carriers once you get it in-hand.

On one level I could see myself really going for the BlackBerry KeyOne. I like its chunky stylings, the screen is good, and it runs Android so the app question that used to dog BlackBerry is now a moot point. But I just can’t get past that price. If you pay £500 for this, you are being taken for a ride. The specifications inside aren't good enough for a handset at this price and the fact you can get our favourite Android phone for £101 less, which has far better performance, simply underlines that.

Review: BlackBerry KEYone
Source: Phone Scoop English Archive.org version
The KEYone is not for multimedia lovers. The smaller display simply isn't ideal for watching videos and negates the phone's ability to support VR entirely. Moreover, if you prefer swiping on glass to pressing physical keys then there's no reason to regress to the KEYone. People who value physical keys, strong security options, and powerful messaging tools will find plenty to like in the BlackBerry KEYone. The company is selling the phone unlocked directly to consumers beginning May 31. The phone costs $549. The KEYone is no fancy flagship; instead, it's the workhorse that many of today's professionals still need to power through their day.

BlackBerry KEYone Review
Source: Androidcommunity.com English Archive.org version
The BlackBerry KEYone is a rather decent, though mid-range, smartphone that gives a respectable throwback to the days of old. However, it doesn’t exist in a vacuum, so we always have to ask why would you want to buy one. If you’re a die-hard BlackBerry fan, you’d probably consider Android heresy anyway and would opt for the large and odd Passport. If you’re a die-hard QWERTY fan, you might be better served by a PRIV. So who is the KEYone for really?

This new BlackBerry phone fits a specific type of person, and they pretty much know who they already are: exiled BlackBerry users who have felt forced to trade their physical keyboards for on-screen keyboards over last half decade. Businesses considering buying this for their employees should appreciate the front-and-center security app and BlackBerry Hub. There’s no excuse for workers to miss your messages now. Anyone just looking to stand out with this old-meets-new smartphone will have an instant conversation starter with anyone over 35 and a lot of “What’s that thing?” from younger millennials.

My time with the KeyOne has not converted me to a keyboard diehard — I’m still much faster and more comfortable typing with a virtual keyboard and the things I use my phone for benefit from a larger screen. It turns out that I use my phone to avoid getting shit done as much as I use it to be productive. Compared to BlackBerry’s heyday, smartphones are now much more than just productivity tools and for most of us, they need to be as adept at entertainment as they are at doing work.

BlackBerry:

These graphics cards are not suited for Windows 3D games. Office and Internet surfing however is possible.

Qualcomm Adreno 320: Integrated graphics card using unified shaders and supporting OpenGL ES 3.0

Qualcomm Adreno 305: Integrated mid-range graphics card in the Snapdragon 400 and S4 Plus SoCs that supports OpenGL ES 3.0 and features unified shaders.

Qualcomm Adreno 225: Integrated OpenGL ES 2.0 and Direct3D 9_3 capable graphics card.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

Qualcomm Adreno 506: Integrated graphics card in the Snapdragon 625 SoC and based on the new 500-series architecture with support for Vulkan, OpenGL ES 3.1 + AE (3.2) and UBWC.

» Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

3.50:

This display is tiny. You will probably see very little on the screen and be able to use mini-resolutions.

5.00:

It is a very small display format for smartphones. You should by no means be mis-sighted and you will generally see very little on the screen and only have a small resolution available. In return, the device should be very small and handy.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.

No weight comment found (one expected)!

77.87%: This rating is not earth-shattering. This rating must actually be seen as average, since there are about as many devices with worse ratings as better ones. A purchase recommendation can only be seen with a lot of goodwill, unless it is about websites that generally rate strictly.
