Activision is offering a 30% discount on Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, the newest entry in the franchise, on Steam until February 10. Launched last year in October, the game has seen its fair share of controversies. Everything from cheaters running rampant to AI-generated artworks and overpriced microtransactions.
The game has seen so much blowback that it currently sits on a "Mostly Negative" rating on Steam. The silver lining is the single-player campaign that continues the story of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Most reviews seem to agree that the campaign is a decent length and offers enough variety and set-pieces to keep you entertained throughout its 8 to 9-hour length.
The multiplayer, however, is another story. The criticisms started tame with players complaining about weapon sway that made it difficult to aim when using ADS (Aim Down Sights). Then came the little flare-ups about Zombies, which proved to be divisive, followed by a mini-controversy with AI-generated art, but the discussion was eventually dominated by the franchise's old nemesis - rampant cheating.
Recently, YouTuber ItsHapa shared a video on X that showcased a tool used by hackers to disconnect other players from the game. Activision's anti-cheat tool, Ricochet, was updated in December last year to be more robust, but the cheaters still seem to be drawn to the game. Worse, the tool's automated ban system has seemingly wrongfully banned many accounts.
