Asus now looks to have officially announced a launch date for its next smartphone, the ROG Phone 6D. The gaming phone slots into the ROG Phone 6 series, and is heavily rumored to be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ instead of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 on the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro.

Update: Asus has now confirmed that this device, the ROG Phone 6D Ultimate, will make its global debut on September 19 and will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9000+.

Asus launched the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro last month. The company isn't letting things end there, however, and is now preparing to debut another device in the ROG Phone 6 series—the ROG Phone 6D.

According to reputable Chinese media outlet WhyLab, Asus has confirmed the existence and launch date of the ROG Phone 6D. The gaming phone will make its debut on September 19 at an event scheduled for 13:30. Presumably, the phone will only be sold in Asus's home market of Taiwan, and the Chinese mainland.

While details of the ROG Phone 6D remain elusive, it's been all but confirmed to be powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+, with the "D" in "6D" likely being a reference to MediaTek's Dimensity series. In any case, that chipset edges out the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 in most CPU tests but loses out in the GPU department.

Performance qualities considered, it's a curious choice for a gaming phone, as the regular ROG Phone 6 and ROG Phone 6 Pro already host the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1. Likely, though, the ROG Phone 6D will be the cheapest offering in the lineup. It's unknown if other specifications will be identical to the ROG Phone 6, although that'd be a smart bet.
