Apple has suffered several high-profile leaks this week, many of which originated from the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). To recap, a YouTuber revealed the Apple M5 chipset and the next iPad Pro 13 two days ago.
Yesterday, this leak was followed up by the FCC publishing initial documentation relating to not just the next iPad Pros but also a new MacBook Pro and a new Vision Pro. Shortly afterwards, Mark Gurman indicated that Apple had stopped developing the latter, which he considered a 'cheaper and lighter' version of Apple's existing virtual reality (VR) headset.
However, the analyst has since clarified that he was referring to a different model than the unreleased VR headset that the FCC listed yesterday. Instead, his comments applied to the 'Vision Air', which was previously expected to launch for around $1,500, or about five times as much as the Quest 3S, Meta's cheaper and lighter alternative to the Quest 3 (curr. $499 on Amazon).
As the embedded tweet below makes clear, Gurman still believes that Apple will introduce a 'new Vision Pro' soon. Unfortunately, the analyst is rather vague on launch timing, only remarking that the headset is 'close' to being released. For the time being, Gurman asserts that Apple will distinguish the next Vision Pro, or Vision Pro 2, from the current model by switching to an Apple M5 chipset.
