Apple Vision Pro 2: New VR headset spotted before release with Apple M5 upgrade rumoured
The virtual reality (VR) community still awaits the long-rumoured Valve Deckard headset after recent suggestions Valve may announce the device in September. Similarly, Meta has not introduced a new headset since last year when it presented the Quest 3S (curr. $299 on Amazon). Meanwhile, Vivo unveiled the Vivo Vision over a month ago in China, albeit without opening sales of its first VR headset in any capacity.
Based on new Federal Communications Commission (FCC) documentation, it seems as though Apple may be the next company to offer another VR headset globally. Specifically, the FCC has published initial documentation relating to an unreleased Head Mounted Device to which Apple has assigned the model number A3416.
As usual, the FCC's disclosure focuses on connectivity standards more than other hardware. To that end, the regulatory body indicates that Apple's next VR headset will retain Wi-Fi 6 connectivity rather than moving onto Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7. Incidentally, the same appears to be the case with new MacBook Pro laptops.
Also, the FCC has shared a technical drawing of A3416. Embedded below, the image shows a headset with the same overall design and hardware as the existing Vision Pro. Thus, it seems probable that the extent of Apple's Vision Pro upgrades will centre on its Apple M5 chipset, just like its iPad Pro and MacBook Pro series. While $3,499 pricing and a launch before the end of the year are also rumoured, it remains to be seen whether Apple will market its next VR headset as the Vision Pro or the Vision Pro 2.
