Alienware AW3423DWF: Dell previews a cheaper QD OLED curved gaming monitor with a 165 Hz refresh rate
Dell has presented the Alienware AW3423DWF, a cheaper alternative to the Alienware AW3423DW that the company already sells. According to the company's press release, the former has a reduced refresh rate, as well as a revised chassis and no NVIDIA G-SYNC Ultimate support. Instead, the Alienware AW3423DWF support AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and operates at up to 165 Hz, not 175 Hz like the Alienware AW3423DW.
Additionally, the new gaming monitor is thinner than its more expensive sibling, theoretically making it easier to wall mount if you are not a fan of Alienware's bundled stand. Moreover, Dell has equipped the Alienware AW3423DWF with a small joystick for controlling the OSD menu, which has also received an overhaul. It is worth noting that Dell has only included DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.0 ports. Hence, external devices are restricted to a 100 Hz refresh rate when connected via HDMI; the monitor's two DisplayPort connections provide its full 165 Hz refresh rate.
As its name suggests, the Alienware AW3423DWF has a 34-inch panel. Dell adds that the gaming monitor operates at 3,440 x 1,440 pixels in a 21:9 aspect ratio with a 1800R curvature. Supposedly, the device covers 99.3% of the DCI-P3 colour space and offers up to 1,000 nits of peak brightness. The Alienware AW3423DWF will be available later this autumn for US$1,099 and CAD$1,399.99. For some reason, Dell has not commented on pricing or availability in other markets yet.
