The brand-new FreeSense Smart Ring appears to be taking direct aim at the Samsung Galaxy Ring, as Acer has also opted for a titanium alloy casing, which means the FreeSense Smart Ring weighs only 2 to 3 grams, depending on the size. The waterproof ring is said to offer a range of health features.
Acer also incorporates a PPG sensor that can measure heart rate, heart rate variability and blood oxygen saturation. The ring also supports sleep tracking and is said to be more comfortable to wear than a smartwatch. Like most smart rings on the market, no subscription is required to use all of the Acer FreeSense Smart Ring's features, giving Acer an advantage over the market leader, as Oura charges $69.99 per year for full features.
Acer aims to set itself apart from some of its competitors by offering a smartphone app that can generate personalized wellness recommendations without a subscription fee. However, the other features and design are similar to those of many competitors, so the app's functionality and the price of the FreeSense Smart Ring will probably decide whether it stands out from the competition.
Price and availability
The Acer FreeSense Smart Ring is available in US ring sizes 7 to 13 and in gold or black, but Acer has not yet confirmed when or at what price the smart ring will be launched.
