Due to its poor financial results in the last few years, Acer divides its business into two groups, namely Core Business and New Business.

Although Acer was aiming for the PC market leader crown back in 2010, they have fallen to sixth position in 2015.The latest financial report does not look good at all, with a 20 percent fall in revenue and a net income drop of over 65 percent. As a direct consequence, the company is splitting into two independent business groups.

The two new business groups are called Core Business and New Business. While the first one handles "IT product development," including notebooks, desktops, tablets, monitors, and projectors, the last one's goal is "the integration of cloud services and platforms, and the development of smartphones and wearable devices with value-added IoT applications."

According to the official press release, "The division will encourage the optimization of each business model, enhance the allocation of operational resources, propel organic growth, and accelerate the overall company transformation." At last, it should also be highlighted that Acer will establish its own holding company that will manage the new business groups.
