We can't wait to compare the 10 nm Intel Ice Lake Aspire 5 and Swift 3 models to the upcoming 7 nm AMD Ryzen alternatives. The mid-range Ryzen 5 should just as well or better than a Core i7 for a lower starting price.

Q2 2020 is looking to be an exciting month for AMD fans. The next generation of mobile Ryzen will soon be landing on both gaming laptops and Ultrabooks to outdo Intel in the mid-range to high-end space. Acer will be refreshing two of its popular Ultrabook models, the 15.6-inch Aspire 5 A515 and 14-inch Swift 3 SF-314, with the hexa-core Ryzen 5 4500U and octa-core Ryzen 7 4700U, respectively. These CPUs are expected to perform as fast or even faster than the current Intel Comet Lake-U and Ice Lake processors while maintaining the same 15 W to 25 W TDP envelope.

Other than the CPU updates, the external designs of these 2020 models will be the same as their 2019 predecessors. All our existing comments on their ports, connectivity, keyboard, clickpad, and other physical features will therefore also apply on the new AMD models.

The AMD Acer Swift 3 SF314-42 and Aspire A515-44 will launch this April and June, respectively, for a starting price of $520 or $630 USD.
