Several years after its initial release, this Legacy of Kain series video game could make a comeback on PS4 and PS5.

Fans of this popular video game franchise may be delighted to learn that this unique game will be returning to next-gen consoles. Indeed, a Taiwanese classification reveals that Legacy of Kain: Defiance could soon arrive on the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4.

According to Gematsu, the fifth and final episode of this vampiric saga, which first appeared on PlayStation 2 in 2003, will be joining the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog in the not-too-distant future. Appearance in this classification is a fairly reliable indicator of a forthcoming release for Sony.

Legacy of Kain: Defiance is being developed by Crystal Dynamics under the direction of Amy Hennig. As for its story in the franchise's chronology, it marks the end of the chapter begun with Soul Reaver. And while players will be able to take control of Kain and Raziel, the plot focuses on the revelation of crucial elements concerning the entire Nosgoth universe.

However, while this announcement may please long-time fans, it's important to understand that this franchise has fallen on hard times. Indeed, the last few years have been complicated for Crystal Dynamics, which had to deal with the departure of Amy Hennig, who left the studio shortly after the game's release to join Naughty Dog to work on the Uncharted franchise.

And that's not all, as sales of Legacy of Kain: Defiance failed to match those generated by Eidos, prompting the studio to take a break. It has to be said that the gameplay was often criticized for being too repetitive. And this despite the fact that the vast majority of reviews were positive, with a score of 75/100 on Metacritic.

The probable arrival of this opus on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 therefore comes at a time of renaissance for the saga, with Crystal Dynamics being bought out by Embracer Group in 2022. Moreover, the latter has not hesitated to show its interest in sequels, remasters and remakes of the franchise.

So, if this game is added to the PlayStation Plus Premium catalog, it could enable younger players to discover this cult saga. Not to mention the fact that this opus would be bound to meet with the success it deserves.
