Deal | Retro SEGA games now free on mobile as company prepares to end support

A total of nine retro SEGA classic games are now free without ads on both Android and iOS. These were primarily ported to mobile as a part of the SEGA Forever program, but it seems that they will get delisted soon. Before this change, most of these were free titles with around $2 in-app purchases to remove ads.

However, with an in-app announcement, SEGA has shared that the support for these classic mobile games will be discontinued. This suggests that the ports might get delisted from the Android and iOS app stores, but those who add the titles to their accounts ahead of the removal can keep them forever.

This announcement doesn't really come as a surprise because the SEGA Forever program itself was discontinued in late 2023. As for the ports, here's a list of the classic retro games that are about to lose support:

• Crazy Taxi Classic: currently available on the App Store and Play Store.
• Golden Axe Classics (Golden Axe I, II, and III): currently available on the App Store and Play Store.
• Shining Force Classics (Shining Force I, II, and Shining in the Darkness): currently available on the App Store and Play Store.
• Sonic CD Classic: currently available on the App Store and Play Store.
• Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Ep. II: currently available on the App Store and Play Store.
• Streets of Rage Classic: currently available on the App Store and Play Store.
• Streets of Rage 2 Classic: currently available on the App Store and Play Store.
• Super Monkey Ball: Sakura Ed.: currently available on the App Store and Play Store.
• Virtua Tennis Challenge: currently available on the App Store and Play Store.

It's worth noting that SEGA hasn't shared when exactly these retro games will get delisted. Another thing worth mentioning is that all these ports have full support for a controller, which could lead to a better experience than on-screen controls (EasySMX M05 curr. $35.99 on Amazon).
