Apple is just a couple weeks away from announcing the iPhone 17 series but that hasn’t stopped leaks from pouring in. The latest is that the iPhone 17 Pro could finally bring a charging feature that has been available to Android users for about seven years at this point. The feature in question, reverse wireless charging, would allow users to charge their supported accessories through their iPhone 17 Pro.
The leak comes from Fixed Focus Digital over at Weibo who claims to have news of Apple implementing reverse wireless charging on the iPhone 17 Pro. This isn’t the first time the feature has been mentioned for the iPhone 17 models. Back in February, another known leaker claimed that Apple is testing 7.5W reverse wireless charging for the iPhone 17 Pro models. If this turns out to be accurate, this would be the first time an iPhone will be able to reverse charge another device wirelessly.
iPhone models since the iPhone 12 have had the ability to reverse charge other devices when connected through a cable. The MagSafe battery pack was an example of that as it could be charged via a Lightning cable plugged into the iPhone 12.
As for reverse wireless charging, users who have the Apple Watch or Apple AirPods should be able to simply place them on the back of the iPhone 17 Pro models and charge them. While the leaker only mentions the iPhone 17 Pro, the feature would most likely be available on the larger iPhone 17 Pro Max as well.
It should be noted that Apple has not shared any information on the iPhone 17 series so this should be taken with a grain of salt. The Cupertino giant is expected to announce the new series on September 9.
