iPad 5 production may begin in July

Teaser
Production of Apple's next iPad could start soon, while leaked images suggest thinner bezel

It's that time of year where new iPad rumors begin swirling, and they're out in full force today. Starting things off, Digitimes's supply-chain sources indicate that production of the iPad 5 is set to kick off in the July-August period, with the biggest concern for smooth production being the yield rate for touch-panels.

The publication's sources expect the device's new display to be produced by LG Display and Sharp, while TPK could take care of the touch panel assembly. The production timeline would seem to match up with previous iPad iterations, as the last iPad was announced in October and released in November.

Interestingly, the report also mentions that the iPad 5 is expected to adopt a slimmer profile and a smaller bezel, a rumor that is being supported by newly leaked images. The images, courtesy of Nowhereelse.fr, clearly show a thin-bezeled iPad display, closely resembling that of the iPad Mini. Nothing has yet surfaced regarding hardware specifications and new features, but those details should be available in due time.
