Google Cloud acquires Qwiklabs

Google Cloud has recently acquired Qwiklabs, a small company that was born in 2012 and offers lab-learning environments for both infrastructure software vendors and cloud platforms. Although a fresh name in the industry, Qwiklabs has over half a million users who spent a total of more than 5 million hours using its platform to learn how to deploy and manage various cloud technologies.

According to Google Clouds' official statement, the company is "focused on offering the most comprehensive, efficient, and fun way to train and onboard people across all our products on Google Cloud, including Google Cloud Platform and G Suite" while Qwiklabs' acquisition promises to help them close the IP skills gap in the cloud.

A recent survey by Cloud Foundry revealed that over 60 percent of the companies who took part are facing shortages in workers that possess cloud-related skills. Almost 40 percent of these companies are looking for employees capable of deploying on infrastructures like Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud Platform.

At last, it should be noted that, for the time being, Qwiki continues to offer lab learning credits and subscriptions. Current users will keep the access to the labs library they have right now as well.
