Android on TouchPad inches closer to reality

HP may have discontinued support for their TouchPad tablet and webOS, but that hasn’t stopped other parties from taking over. Hackers and devs from all over have taken a special interest in porting Android over to the tablet, and we’re now beginning to see some of the fruition of their efforts.

Originally, the Cyanogen Mod team managed to boot Android onto the tablet, but the touchscreen panel refused to play ball. However, that hiccup now appears to have been remedied, as the TouchDroid project has released a video that demonstrates an HP TouchPad running Android 2.3.5 with a fully working touchscreen.

As displayed in the video, the Android build is semi-fluid, and up to 10 finger multi-touch seems to have been enabled. Unfortunately, the graphics acceleration doesn’t appear to be up to par yet, and the colors are less than optimal.

Though this may seem like a minimal step for the project, any progress is encouraging; especially if the graphics problems can be ironed out. And while a final build is probably still a ways off, you can always whittle away a minute and a half by admiring the video below.
