ZikeDrive USB4 SSD Drive with speeds up to 3,763 MB/s is crowdfunding
The ZikeDrive USB4 SSD Drive is now crowdfunding on Indiegogo. Ziketech, the company behind the gadget, claims that the product is a world first, with maximum read and write speeds of 3,763 MB/s and 3,146 MB/s, respectively. Compared to Thunderbolt 3 SSD, this is a marked improvement in write speed; TB3 is estimated to be closer to 1,780 MB/s, which could make this new gadget helpful to those looking to free up space on a tablet or laptop.
These speeds are demonstrated on the Lenovo YOGA Pro 14s and WD SN850X_PCIe4.0 4TB in a YouTube video (below). It’s worth noting that this SSD enclosure is by no means maxing out the card’s performance; the SSD can handle read speeds up to 7,300 MB/s. The accompanying USB4 cable, which you can store inside the device, allows you to transfer data at 40 Gbps, and the gadget is compatible with any USB-C device and any NVMe SSD.
The ZikeDrive has an aluminum alloy shell which helps it to dissipate heat generated by the SSDs. The shell is also drop and scratch-proof to protect the enclosure, and no tools are required to install or remove the SSD. The device weighs 245 g (~8.64 oz) and measures 112 x 66.8 x 18 mm (~4.4 x 2.6 x 0.7-in). The minimum pledge level currently on the Indiegogo campaign for the ZikeDrive Enclosure is US$99, which the company claims is 50% lower than its future retail price. Ziketech is shipping the product worldwide, with orders expected to be dispatched in May. Caution is advised as not all Indiegogo campaigns come to fruition.
