Reviews for the ZTE Zmax Pro

ZTE ZMax Pro review: A budget-friendly behemoth of a smartphone
Source: Good Gear Guide English
While the ZMax Pro performance meets the minimum expectations of a $179 smartphone, it doesn't do anything to go beyond that. In other words, this is a budget phone where I felt like you are getting what you pay for. Unlike the similarly-priced Moto G4 line, where at the end of the day you kind of feel like you ripped Motorola off by paying so little for a phone with performance that exceeds its price tag.

That said, a budget phone with a 6-inch display is few and far between. And if having a giant screen is of utmost importance, and you're tightly price-constrained, then the ZMax Pro is a worthy contender.

70% ZTE ZMax Pro review:

The ZTE ZMax Pro has a solid build, an expansive screen, and an exceptionally low price tag. It's only available on MetroPCS for now, it doesn't have NFC, and the battery charges slowly. If you're willing to use MetroPCS' network, the ZTE ZMax Pro is a great big-screen phone for cheap.

80% A $99 Big-Screen Bargain
Source: Tom's Guide English
The Zmax Pro doesn't have any breakthrough features, but at $99, it really doesn't need to. ZTE's latest phone is a useful phablet if you're shopping for price, a larger display size and better-than-average battery life. If you're OK being tied down to the MetroPCS network — and it fared the best among the prepaid services we've ranked — the Zmax Pro should fit the needs of anyone demanding a device with a large display and a small price tag.

73% It's surprising what $100 can buy you
Source: Android Authority English
Owning a cheap phone no longer means you’re getting a cheap phone, that’s just not the case anymore after checking out the ZTE ZMAX Pro. The $99.00 price tag it’s stickered with is without a doubt an aggressive move on its part, especially more given its phablet-esque stature and the inclusion of a fingerprint sensor. These are two things in particular that you wouldn’t expect to find in a phone in its price range, but that’s the beauty about it – you do get them!

Its a Killer Phone for $99 [Review]
Source: G Style Magazine English
I won’t lie when I first heard the price of $99 I didn’t expect this much out the box. But for a user of various Android devices you get a great deal. Huge battery, adequate camera, nice processor and massive display all bundled into one.

80% ZTE Zmax Pro
Source: PC Mag English
The bloatware load isn't heavy compared with most other carriers. You'll find AppStore, Device Unlock, Lookout, metroZone, Mobile HotSpot, myMetro, nameiD, and Visual Voicemail pre-installed, leaving you with 22.59GB out of a total 32GB of storage. Thankfully, you have the option of using a microSD card and taking advantage of Android's Adoptable Storage feature.

Comment

Model: The ZTE Zmax Pro is an entry-level smartphone which will make many users happy with its overall value. Despite being light on the pricing scale, the ZTE Zmax Pro is solidly built with a sleek profile that feels good in the hand. Rear camera, fingerprint reader and buttons are placed inside metallic rings to give it a more detailed look. The front bezel contains three touch buttons; back, home and menu while the back contains the fingerprint scanner and rear camera. There is a 3.5 mm headphone jack on the top side and a USB Type-C port on the bottom side. The right side contains the power button and volume rocker and the left side houses a SIM and a MicroSD slot.

Display on the ZTE Zmax Pro is a Full-HD 6.0 inch IPS LCD panel with 367 ppi pixel density and good contrast. This display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, which is more than sufficient given the cost. That said, the average consumer might find it hard to accept a smartphone this big as their daily carry around device. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow device comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 617 chipset which sports four 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 processors and four 1.0 GHz Cortex-A53 processor. The processor is paired with an Adreno 405 GPU which is sufficient enough for light gaming and graphic requirements. The Zmax Pro features 2 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal memory. There is a slot for microSD card to further expand its storage. Cameras on the ZTE Zmax Pro come in form of a 13 MP f/2.2 rear sensor and a 5 MP front camera. These cameras aren't really the highlight of the phone as in the case of all budget centric phones. They do a standard job at taking photos and videos, but users can't expect them to have the same performance as the cameras of flagship devices.

Other features on the device are Bluetooth 4.1, an FM radio module and A-GPS. Battery life on the ZTE Zmax Pro is provided by a non-removable Lithium Ion cell rated at 3400 mAh. One would expect that high speed USB Type-C to support really fast charging rates but that isn't the case here. The Zmax Pro doesn't support high speed charging and it doesn't even have wireless charging capabilities, which means that one should be prepared to keep it connected to the charger for quite a long time for recharging the battery. All of the cons aside, the ZTE Zmax Pro is an impressive phone considering its offerings and price. In the US, it retails for as low as $99. There aren't many competitions in the 6 inch category with a price and spec like this.

Qualcomm Adreno 405: Integrated graphics card for ARM based SoCs. Depending on the used SoC the clock rate is around 500 MHz and features 48 unified shaders. Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards. » Further information can be found in our Comparison of Mobile Graphics Cards and the corresponding Benchmark List.

6":

This display is quite big for a smartphone but frequently used for smartphones.

Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.

» To find out how fine a display is, see our DPI List.
0.175 kg:

Only few smartphones are more lightweight than this.

ZTE:

ZTE is short for Zhong Xing Telecommunication Equipment Company Limited, which was founded in China in 1985. The product range includes, for example, USB sticks, routers, smartphones and tablets.

The ratings of the relatively many reviews have a wide range from below-average to very good (as of 2016).

63.83%: Such a bad rating is rare. There exist hardly any notebooks, which are rated worse.
