Reviews for the ZTE Nubia Pad 3D

ZTE deserves its roses for trying something a little more “out there.” The Nubia 3D definitely stands out amongst the sea of Android tablets with a well-executed concept of glasses-free 3D. Not only that, but LeiaTube means you’re not stuck just looking at the preset selection of models — expanding it to content you can watch. But every facet of this tablet screams “prototype” to me, from its buggy OS and limited software selection to the chunky chassis and sky high price tag for underwhelming internals. The company is onto something good here, but as a glorified proof of concept, only those who are desperate for a 3D tablet should buy it. For everyone else, wait for the Nubia Pad 3D 2, and let’s hope ZTE brings that cost down.

The Nubia Pad 3D has an impressive party trick with those 3D visuals, especially paired with the AI engine that can convert flat 2D images/videos into eye-popping 3D creations. It’s a great gadget to wow friends and family, but I’m not convinced it has much use beyond that, especially with the limited app library and inability to use LeiaFlix! outside of the USA. Otherwise, the specs are decent enough with the Snapdragon 888 processor and 12.4-inch LCD panel, it’s just hard to justify at such a premium price tag.

The Nubia Pad 3D tablet is a party pleaser thanks to its remarkable 3D technology and ability to add a new dimension to standard 2D photos and videos. But the lack of applications to take full advantage of this technology makes the 3D effects feel more like a gimmick than a useful feature for a tablet.

Qualcomm Adreno 660: Graphics chip for smartphones and tablets that is integrated within the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC. Qualcomm claims that it is 35% faster than the Adreno 650 in the Snapdragon 865 SoC and offers a 20% better power efficiency. For Android it should be one of the fastest graphics cards in 2021.
Modern games should be playable with these graphics cards at low settings and resolutions. Casual gamers may be happy with these cards.

This range of display format is largely the upper limit for tablets and the lower limit for subnotebooks.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small in size and therefore easily portable. The tiny display has the added advantage of requiring little power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is exhausting for the eyes. High resolutions, which one is used to from a standard laptop, are almost not usable.
The same applies to tablets in this size range.

ZTE is short for Zhong Xing Telecommunication Equipment Company Limited, which was founded in China in 1985 and is partly state-owned. ZTE's core business is wireless, optical transmission, data transmission equipment, telecommunications software and cell phones, USB sticks, routers and tablets.
69.5%: This rating is poor. More than three quarters of the models are rated better. That is rather not a purchase recommendation. Even if verbal ratings in this area do not sound that bad ("sufficient" or "satisfactory"), they are usually euphemisms that disguise a classification as a below-average laptop.
