Codrut Nistor,

ZTE will soon hit the US market with a new premium Android handset packing a few outstanding specs and features, including a massive 4 GB of memory and dual-lens camera with 4K video recording. ZTE Axon will launch on July 14 in New York, but a website for it has been already set up, and four such handsets are ready to be won as part of a contest.

According to the rules of the ZTE Axon contest mentioned above, the retail value of this smartphone is $450 USD (unlocked and free of carrier branding, of course). While ZTE did not reveal details concerning the processor and battery capacity yet, these are the highlights mentioned on the website:

  • Colors: Chromium Silver, Ion Gold, Phthalo Blue
  • Camera: dual-lens with auto focus and 4K video recording
  • Audio: Hi-Fi audio playback and recording (twin microphones with noise suppression technology)
  • Operating system: custom Android with a "super-simplified" interface that "pairs full-bleed images with large, elegant type for a high-end look and feel"

Unfortunately, no other details regarding the specs and features of ZTE Axon can be found. We will get back to it at launch in mid-July, so stay tuned.

Although I have been writing about new software and hardware for almost a decade, I consider myself to be old school. I always enjoy listening to music on CD or tape instead of digital files and I will not even get into the touchscreen vs physical keys debate. However, I also enjoy new technology, as I now have the chance to take a look at the future every day. I joined the Notebookcheck crew back in 2013 and I have no plans to leave the ship anytime soon.
