X rivals Threads and Bluesky see an influx of US users after election night
Bluesky Social and Instagram Threads have seen a large influx of users from the US after election night, The majority coming from Elon Musk's X (formerly Twitter). The social media platform's right-wing stance has driven people to seek alternatives after Donald Trump's decisive victory in the US elections.
As reported by Bloomberg, Bluesky, a decentralized social media platform created as a proof of concept for the AT Protocol originally by Twitter, has seen over 700,000 users from X in the past week. Most of these accounts come from the US. The platform has increased its user base to 14.5 million, compared to 10 million in September.
Meta's Instagram Threads has become the top-rated free app in Apple's App Store, nearly doubling its 150 million user base in April to 275 million users. Meanwhile, Bluesky has surged to seventh place on that list, ahead of Meta's Instagram, Facebook and Elon Musk's X.
