Developer Lloyd Jones has just released a Google Chrome extension that makes it easy to comment on any web page using Bluesky. Building on the work of Emily Liu, who initially figured out how to make Bluesky the comment section for any blog, the extension pulls together the additional contributions of coryzue and LoueeD to create the magic behind it. Although the setup process requires developer privileges in Chrome, it is easy and straightforward.
Users will find all the files needed to install the extension on Jones' GitHub page. The instructions are easy to follow and require that users do a bit of setup, which includes downloading the necessary files, accessing the Chrome extensions flag menu, enabling developer mode, and installing the extension. Once complete, users must navigate to their Bluesky account using the link provided to create a custom password for the extension to function. With the setup complete, users can now reply to any website with a simple click of the extension. Users will also be able to see any replies made to their posts in the extensions menu.
In practice, this is a quick and efficient way for users to create posts that they would like to discuss. Seeing comments populate in real-time is also a neat feature. However, users should be aware that, technically, this extension can access the site they are on when they click the extension. During testing, this resulted in unintentional posts being made to Bluesky. Fortunately, the extension is relatively new and will likely improve over time.
