WhatsApp working on advanced search function with previews
For those of us who use WhatsApp as a primary mode of communication and find ourselves having multiple chat windows open, it can be pretty easy to lose track of what’s going on. This is where the good news comes in: According to Wabetainfo, WhatsApp is currently working on an advanced search function for Android and iOS, with the aim of making it easier to find specific content.
The main interface will display all media files in different categories such as photos, gifs, links, documents, as well as the number of stored media files. One’s search history will be listed below and can be erased with a simple click.
Clicking on a specific category in the search function would allow one to see all media files of that kind; alternatively one could start a search by entering key words in the search bar. This aids in facilitating the search for saved attachments and received links whilst allowing you to preview the search results.

Nevertheless, some key functions are still missing that users have been asking for, such as being able to scroll or jump to a specific date or time frame instead of scrolling up through an endless stream of messages. This can actually take several minutes, especially after particularly long conversations.
The advanced search feature is still in the testing phase. The feature will first be made available for iOS users, before Android users get to sample the new change. When exactly the feature will be made available is still unknown.
