One of the best co-op experiences of 2024, Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, is discounted by 55% on Steam, down to its lowest recorded price of $26.99.
Story
Set during the Age of Dark Imperium, Space Marine 2 lets you take control of a returning Demetrian Titus (now a Primaris Space Marine), leading a team against a swarm of Tyranids and the forces of Chaos.
It's a decent story with a few twists and turns that keep you on your toes, and it moves at a fast pace, setting up quite a few interesting locations across several distant planets. It also has elements of political drama and inter-squad rivalries that add a bit of spice.
Gameplay
The meat and potatoes of the Space Marine 2 experience are the co-op missions, which let you team up with up to three players to take out hordes of insectoids and other nasties. There is also a nine-to-ten-hour single-player campaign if you want to go solo, but you are going to need a few friends to get the most out of the experience.
An AI director will keep your team on its toes, dynamically adjusting the spawn rate of enemies and bosses based on how well you do. There are a variety of environments to explore, and the art does justice to its Warhammer 40,000 roots.
There is also PvP if you would rather butt heads against other teams. There are six classes to choose from, ranging from tactical to assault. The progression for co-op and PvP is separate, meaning you earn separate experience points and in-game currency for each mode.
Since its launch, the game has continued to receive a steady progression of updates and events, the latest being the "Anniversary Update" in September 2025.
Earlier this year, Saber Interactive gave the modding community full access to its in-house game editor for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2, allowing them freedom to create new scenarios, scenes, game modes, the AI director, gameplay logic, and much more.
Reviews
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has a "Very Positive" rating on Steam, with 85% from more than 70k reviews trending towards positive.
Users have praised the game's faithfulness to the source material and the gorgeous environment art, which accurately depicts the world of Warhammer 40,000. The swarm mechanic effectively keeps you in the action, throwing tons of enemies at your team to mow down for their heresy.
The negative reviews mention the weak AI of friendly bots if you decide to play solo. Space Marine 2's intense action focus can also make it feel a bit repetitive, and overall, many players recommend playing this game either with friends or random players through matchmaking.
