Vivo S50 and S50 Pro Mini specs leak ahead of launch
Vivo has just launched the X300 in its home market, but is already on to the next thing. According to popular tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) on Weibo, the phone maker is prepping two models, the Vivo S50 and Vivo S50 Pro Mini. Both models, expected to launch in November, offer significant hardware upgrades.
Vivo S50 camera upgrades: flagship-grade periscope zoom and 50 MP selfie
Info shared by DCS indicates the Vivo S50 will have a 6.59-inch flat display with 1.5K resolution. However, the smartphone's biggest selling point is its periscope telephoto lens. The camera setup offers a flagship-level sensor for higher-quality zooming.
On the front, Vivo is reportedly adding a 50 MP camera, making the S50 a serious contender in the selfie phone category.
Vivo S50 Pro Mini: compact design and Dimensity 9400 performance
The Vivo S50 Pro Mini promises a flagship experience in a compact package. The phone will reportedly have the same display resolution but on a slightly smaller 6.31-inch screen. DCS has not stated exact details but revealed that the upcoming smartphone will feature a flagship chip running a score of 300W+. However, previous leaks suggest the S50 Pro Mini will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 9400 chipset, the same silicon found in the Vivo X200 from 2024.
The Pro Mini is going to be another mobile photography powerhouse, featuring a tri-camera system that includes a periscope camera. It should get the 50 MP selfie camera, too, paired with an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint sensor.
Competition and release timeline
Vivo is reportedly skipping the S40 in deference to Chinese cultural beliefs about the number four. However, the S50 will be competing with the Oppo Reno 15 and the Honor 500 series, both of which are expected in China in November. Provided DCS gets it right this time, the S50 series will bring flagship-level performance and photography in a slim chassis
