Unboxing video of Huawei Mate X reveals a flashy foldable flagship with a new red button
2019 hasn’t quite turned out to be the year of the foldable smartphone after a somewhat promising start, but it seems the major OEMs involved are starting to get their acts together in regard to the futuristic form factor. The now-revised Huawei Mate X, which could end up being one of the stronger competitors for best foldable device, has been leaked onto YouTube in an unboxing video.
There are no major surprises in the clip, which appears to be genuine. The foldable smartphone comes in premium-looking packaging and the user swiftly tests the folding capability of the Huawei Mate X. After inserting the device in a folded state into a handy leather sleeve, the owner proceeds to unfold the Mate X by pressing a red button that pops the display into a fully open state.
Unfortunately, the device isn’t turned on in the video, but this brief glance at Huawei’s product certainly seems to show that the Mate X is ready for launch. If rumors of this foldable smartphone coming with the new Kirin 990 SoC end up being accurate, then Huawei should have a real contender on its hands in the nascent foldable market.
