The flagship Asus Zenbook 3 series was recently updated to the Zenbook 3 Deluxe that currently retails for well over $1000 USD. As for those who want something a little more affordable and just as lightweight, the new Vivobook S510 should be an excellent alternative at almost half the price.
The S510 brings style and performance typically found on flagship laptops to more mainstream prices starting at about $699 USD. The 15.6-inch notebook includes an optional 1080p IPS display with narrow 7.8 mm bezels. Other core specifications are as listed:
- Intel U-class Kaby Lake (i.e, i5-7200U, i7-7500U)
- 15.6-inch 768p or 1080p display
- 8 GB to 16 GB of RAM
- 128 GB SSD + 1 TB HDD
- SD reader, USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, HDMI, 3.5 mm audio
- WiFi 2x2 802.11ac + Bluetooth 4.2
- 18 mm thick
- 1.5 kg
The least expensive SKU ships without the SSD and users wanting dedicated graphics must instead purchase the S510UQ configuration with the GeForce 940MX GPU.
See our full review on the S510UA for more information on the new release. In short, we find the chassis to be attractive, lightweight, and very portable, but the lucrative 1080p option will bump prices too close to the $1000 USD mark where there is overlap with flagship alternatives.
