Ultimate camera flagship to launch globally: Xiaomi Mix 5 expected to sport major upgrades

Anyone who still remembers Xiaomi's Mix series of flagships is definitely not new to the smartphone business. In Europe, you effectively have to look back to 2018, when the last Mix flagship arrived here. The Xiaomi Mix 4, by contrast, only launched in China. The standout features of all Mix flagships were Xiaomi's fairly experimental design and feature decisions. Hole-free displays, for example, were key features of the Xiaomi Mix 3 and Xiaomi Mix 4. The former used a slider mechanism for the front camera, while the latter used an under-display camera.
According to Ximitime, the Xiaomi Mix 5, which is set to launch soon five years after the Mix 4, will likely once again feature an invisible selfie camera under the display, which will hopefully deliver significantly better quality than in 2021. Another innovative feature expected for the Mix 5 is magnetic camera technology. This lines up with claims from another leaker, who predicted an ultimate camera flagship for summer 2026 based on the Magnetic Lens technology shown as a concept at MWC 2025, likely once again in cooperation with Leica.
Whether all these puzzle pieces will actually come together as expected in the form of a Xiaomi Mix 5 camera flagship remains to be seen. In any case, the latest leak from Ximitime is based on code references from HyperOS, which naturally involves a considerable amount of interpretation of codenames and model numbers. Anyone interested in the details should take a look at the report.
Xiaomi Mix 5 is also expected to launch globally
Another aspect of the Xiaomi Mix 5 is particularly interesting for Europe. Unlike the Xiaomi Mix Fold 5 foldable, which is also expected this year and is said to be based on the Xring O3, but will likely once again only be sold in China, the Xiaomi Mix 5 is expected to launch globally as well. According to Ximitime, there are concrete indications of this, too. In addition to Europe, Xiaomi apparently plans to cover India, Turkey, Indonesia, Taiwan, Russia and, of course, China, while Japan apparently will be left out. At this point, there are still no concrete details on the specs, although Ximitime predicts that the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, expected in September, will be used here, which would rule out a summer launch. Whether all of this information is accurate remains to be seen, and a healthy dose of skepticism is certainly warranted at this point.
