TouchPad pre-orders begin; white-colored model could be in the works
We’ve been quietly awaiting the TouchPad’s pre-orders to go live, and it looks like French customers are in for a little treat. HP was set to accept pre-orders starting on the 19th of June, but the French HP website appears to have started things a day earlier.
HP’s first tablet comes with a dual-core Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, and HP’s own webOS. US pre-orders are slated for tomorrow, at an earlier announced price tag of $499 for the 16GB model. Sadly, European customers will have to pay a premium for the tablet (partially due to VAT), as the same 16GB TouchPad is listed at €479.60 ($692) on the HP France website. The tablet should ship in 1-2 weeks, which consists with what we’d previously heard about a July 1st launch.
In related news, precentral.com managed to get their hands on documents that indicate that a white version of the TouchPad could be available soon. The corporate partners presentation acquired by the website points to a “dove white finish” TouchPad that could be available at launch. However, HP hasn’t officially announced anything other than the Black model and it will be seen whether or not the presentation proves true.
