HP TouchPad to ship on July 1st

Teaser
Company confirms July 1st release date, pre-orders begin in 10 days

Apple, Android and BlackBerry all have released their major tablets for 2011, but HP’s entry has been missing thus far. However, that’s set to change as the company has finally unveiled a release date for their much anticipated TouchPad tablet.

Apparently the previously rumored June launch date doesn’t seem to be true, as HP is instead going with a July 1st ship date. According to the company’s press release, the tablet will first be available in the United States, but will make its way to the UK, France, Ireland and Germany a few days later. On the other hand, Canadian customers will have to wait till mid-July while Italy, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand and Singapore will receive the device sometime later this year.

HP’s 9.7” TouchPad was first unveiled back in February, and comes with a dual-core 1.2GHz Snapdragon processor, 1GB of RAM, and is the first tablet to feature HP’s own webOS. As of now, only 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi models of the tablet exist, but HP also announced that there are plans to introduce an AT&T version of the TouchPad sometime this summer.

Global pre-orders for the tablet begin on June 19th and US retailers include Best Buy, Staples, Office Depot, Walmart and Amazon. The 16GB version of the tablet will sell for $499 while the 32GB version will go for $599.
