One of the world’s largest brick-and-mortar retailers could be carrying the upcoming HP TouchPad at launch.
According to PreCentral, the webOS tablet has appeared in Wal-Mart’s inventory system. The source claims at least one model will be made available, which is the 32GB model, for $599. Whether or not additional models will launch simultaneously, such as a 16GB version, is still unknown.
We should note that the Motorola Xoom and Samsung Galaxy Tab were discovered to launch for the Verizon network in a similar manner to this Wal-Mart rumor, so the presence of the TouchPad in the inventory system may be a reasonably reliable leak.
The 9.7-inch HP TouchPad will be the first of its kind to ship with webOS 3.0. For owners of the Palm Pre smartphone, the Palm-developed operating system should feel quite familiar once the tablet launches sometime this June.
