Anyone who prefers forging their own path in RPGs rather than following a predetermined storyline might find plenty to enjoy in Gedonia. The open-world RPG is currently 90% off on Steam until November 9, bringing the price down to just $1.47.

In Gedonia, players create their own adventurer and set off to do pretty much whatever they feel like. There are dungeons to explore, quests to complete, powerful monsters to defeat and plenty of secrets to uncover. And anyone who grows tired of the adventuring life can simply build their own farm. Gedonia is currently 90% off on Steam until November 9, bringing the price down to $1.49 from $14.99. According to SteamDB, however, this isn't a new record low. The RPG was last available at the same price during the Steam Autumn Sale – although it has never been cheaper.

Gedonia offers particularly extensive freedom when it comes to character development. There are no fixed classes. Instead, players can mix and match abilities from numerous skill trees to create their own playstyle. For example, they can build flying mages or send entire armies of undead into battle. However, there are some limitations: The attribute points assigned at the beginning determine which abilities become available later. Anyone who invests too little in Intelligence, for instance, will have to do without magic.

Those who prefer a more structured experience can follow the main storyline, which can be influenced by their decisions. There are also several factions with their own questlines, recruitable companions and a crafting system.

Gedonia's graphics are fairly simple, but its colorful fantasy landscapes still manage to create an appealing atmosphere.

What would a fantasy RPG be without dark dungeons?

Players particularly praise Gedonia for its versatile character development, varied quests and high replay value. However, there are a few rough edges to put up with. Combat often feels clunky, enemy AI isn't exactly brilliant and technical issues occasionally get in the way. Still, most players don't seem particularly bothered by these shortcomings. On Steam, 86% of nearly 4,000 user reviews are positive.

For RPG fans who value freedom of choice, Gedonia could therefore be well worth a look. The game is rated Steam Deck Playable.
