Deal | This adventure RPG, loved by 95% of players, is 85% off on Steam for a very limited time

Hero of the Kingdom II has dropped to $1.34 on Steam. It boils down to a 85% cut from $8.99; the promotion ends on 1 October. It is not quite the game's all-time low — it briefly hit $0.79 at a 90% discount — but it is still the lowest the game has gone in two years, as per SteamDB.

Released in February 2015 by indie developer Lonely Troops, Hero of the Kingdom II has "Overwhelmingly Positive" reviews. 95% of its 1,901 Steam reviews are positive, a rating it has held impressively steadily for a decade.

The main appeal is its lack of any friction. After a tragedy drives you and your sister from your village, the two of you settle in a coastal fishing community — and then pirates take her. You then go through a story-driven point-and-click adventure across an isometric map. You have to rebuild the village, fish, gather herbs, trade goods, hire help and complete quests until you can build a ship and sail out to find her. There are no timers and no failure states, which is why Steam users have tagged it 'Cozy', 'Relaxing' and Wholesome alongside Adventure and RPG.

It is also unusually portable, especially for the price. The game has Windows, macOS and Linux builds, supports Remote Play on both phone and tablet, and includes Steam Cloud saves, achievements and trading cards. A Mac demo is available if you want to try before buying.

The rest of the series is discounted alongside it, with the first game also at 85% and Hero of the Kingdom III at 80%. A Hero of the Kingdom Trilogy bundle takes a further 20% off all three, and a six-game collection covering the trilogy plus the three Lost Tales entries is also listed on Steam.
