The Olimex ESP32-P4-PC is an open-source dev board based on the ESP32-P4 SoC, featuring HDMI, 10/100Mb Ethernet, and four USB 2.0 ports for applications such as smart home panels, POS systems, and IP camera controllers.

Olimex, a Bulgarian brand, has released the Olimex ESP32-P4-PC, a new development board based on the ESP32-P4 SoC. Living up to the "PC" in its name, it features an HDMI output, Ethernet connectivity, and multiple USB ports in a compact 90 × 60 mm form factor.

This board seems like an upgrade over the previous ESP32-SBC-FabGL, which was designed to run the FabGL library for VGA output and emulate classic systems powered by Intel's 8080 and 8086 CPUs. However, this new board is built around the latest ESP32-P4 MCU and delivers native HDMI output via an LT8912B MIPI-to-HDMI converter chip, making it the first development board to include an integrated HDMI port without external graphics support.

Other features of this board include a MIPI DSI/CSI interface for display and camera, a 3.5mm audio jack, 10/100Mbit Ethernet with optional PoE support, four USB 2.0 ports along with a 20-pin GPIO header, JTAG for debugging, a UEXT port for expansion, along with boot and reset buttons for programming. The board gets power from the USB-C port and includes a built-in battery charging circuit so it can be powered from a battery. Additionally, the battery circuit includes external power sensing. This allows the board to act as a UPS out of the box. If USB-C power drops, it can switch to a LiPo cell without rebooting the MCU.

The only thing missing is wireless connectivity, which can be easily added via the UEXT port. The board is open-sourced, and all the design files, including schematics and the user manual, are available on GitHub.

The company is marketing this as a "PC-like" board, but that doesn't mean it's a replacement for Linux-based SBCs like the Raspberry Pi, Orange Pi, or Banana Pi. With a 400MHz dual-core RISC-V processor, it is powerful enough for basic real-time tasks, such as 1080p H.264 video processing and displaying 2D GUIs, but it cannot run desktop-class applications. You should consider this board as a high-end embedded platform designed for industrial HMIs, smart displays, or media-focused IoT gateways where HDMI and stable wired connectivity matter more than full PC-level computing.

The Olimex ESP32-P4-PC is currently available for pre-order at €24.95 on the company’s store page, with shipping scheduled to begin on February 23, 2026.
