Control puts players inside a secretive government agency where surreal events and hidden threats unfold. It blends classic shooter action with supernatural powers that let you weaponize the environment – now 90% off on Steam at its lowest price ever.

Remedy Entertainment is known for creating distinctive worlds that combine cinematic storytelling with surreal concepts, from the neo-noir shooters of the Max Payne series to the psychological thriller Alan Wake and the TV-inspired Quantum Break. This flair for the unusual continues in Control, a mostly linear action-adventure that stands out with its eccentric story moments.

The story follows Jesse Faden, who arrives at the Federal Bureau of Control’s headquarters, the enigmatic Oldest House, in search of her missing brother. Unexpectedly, she becomes the agency’s new director. By claiming the shape-shifting Service Weapon, she unlocks supernatural abilities that help her fight the Hiss, a hostile force that has taken over the building and turned it into a surreal threat.

The German gaming magazine GameStar reviewed Control and praised the atmosphere of the Oldest House, with its shifting rooms, strange characters and mysterious objects that make the setting feel genuinely unique. Classic shooter mechanics are expanded with supernatural powers such as a protective shield or telekinesis, which lets you fling almost any object in the room as a weapon and adds variety to the combat. The review also pointed out the game’s considerable length as a positive.

GameStar noted, however, that Control often feels too much like a traditional shooter. Enemy designs are somewhat repetitive, and the missions lack variety. Even so, the game received a solid 79/100 in their review. On Metacritic, critics awarded it a score of 84, while players rated it 7.8. Steam lists more than 50,000 reviews, 87% of which are positive.

Now 90% off on Steam – for the very first time

The Control Ultimate Edition, which bundles the main game with the two expansions The Foundation and AWE, normally costs about $40 on Steam. Until August 31, however, it is discounted by 90%, dropping the price to just around $4. According to SteamDB, the game has never been this cheap before.
