In recent years, Stardew Valley has inspired countless mods, from new dialogues and relationships to farm expansions and convenient quality-of-life features. While spells and magical items have appeared before, MagicStardew is likely the first mod to add a fully fleshed-out magic system to the beloved farming sim.
Players gain a mana bar that regenerates automatically and grows in capacity over time. The spellbook is given by a mysterious wizard who appears once all community center bundles are complete. Alternatively, it can be unlocked immediately with the console command "spellbook_give".
MagicStardew currently features 13 spells, ranging from healing and teleportation to magical buffs, a fire cyclone and an earthquake that clears nearby stones. Abilities are unlocked gradually through gameplay and exploration, while a leveling system rewards frequent use by reducing mana costs and increasing maximum capacity.
Community reacts positively
The fan mod by developer Zexu2K was released on August 12, 2025, on NexusMods and is currently in beta. With more than 2,700 downloads and over 200 comments, it has already attracted significant attention, and the feedback so far is overwhelmingly positive. Players describe it as the best magic expansion for Stardew Valley to date, enhancing the base game in a meaningful way without feeling excessive.
Since MagicStardew is still in its beta phase, players may encounter some bugs and balance issues. Reports mention spells activating on their own or the fire cyclone making the mines far too easy. The modder is open to feedback, however, which gives hope that these problems will be resolved in future updates.
For installation, the frameworks SMAPI, Content Patcher and Generic Mod Config Menu are required. The mod is compatible with others such as Starblue Valley UI, Weather Wonders or Wear More Rings.
