Deal | The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a are both down to $399 on Amazon, but there's only one right choice
Black Friday is still weeks away, but there are already a lot of awesome deals, and among them are Amazon's amazing discounts on the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a. Both devices are down to the same price of $399, a discount of 43% and 20% off their respective list prices.
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a are very similar, blurring the lines between the flagship and the more affordable A-series. And with both devices now available for the same price, some might be wondering which one to buy. However, despite their similarities, there are enough differences that place the Pixel 8 above the Pixel 8a, thus making it the right choice between the two.
Starting with the size - while both phones are compact devices, the Pixel 8 is the smaller of the two despite having a larger 6.2-inch display (thanks to its slimmer bezels) as against the Pixel 8a's 6.1-inch screen. It also has the more premium build with Gorilla Glass Victus on both sides and an IP68 rating whereas the Pixel 8a has Gorilla Glass 3 on the front, a plastic back, and an IP67 dust and water resistance rating.
The Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a are powered by the Tensor G3 processor but they are actually not the same. The one in the Pixel 8a is inferior as it uses a less-efficient packaging method compared to the Tensor G3 chipset used in the Pixel 8. Both phones have 8GB of RAM and the $399 price tag is for the 128GB storage variant.
The Pixel 8 also has the upper hand with support for Wi-Fi 7, a larger 4,575mAh battery capacity, and faster charging (27W wired and 18W wireless) while the Pixel 8a has Wi-Fi 6E, a smaller 4,492mAh battery, and supports 18W wired charging and 7.5W wireless charging. It also lacks reverse wireless charging. Interestingly, both the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8a will receive 7 major OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates.
The Pixel 8a is available to buy at the $399 price in Obsidian, Aloe, Bay, and Porcelain but only the Obsidian Pixel 8 is down to $399 as the other colors are priced at $499.
