The Peladn HO4 mini PC is a strong contendor for a compact computer which packs decent performance along with excellent connectivity and expandability, all while being relatively easy on the wallet.

Mini PCs have long held a special allure for compact computing aficionados. While they are typically far from the fastest computers in the market, their compact enclosure and efficiency-first design make them highly suitable for certain use cases, such as home servers, basic productivity hubs, etc. The Peladn HO4 is one such contender in this expanding market segment and packs decent internals for its price.

At its heart, the Peladn HO4 is powered by Intel's Core i5-12450H 'Alder Lake' CPU with 8 cores and 12 threads. This CPU is over 2 years old at this point, but should offer a decent amount of performance for most tasks. The system boasts 16 GB of upgradeable DDR4-3200 memory, along with 512 GB of flash storage. Both the RAM and storage are upgradeable - the RAM can be upgraded to 64 GB, while the storage can be upgraded both by replacing the existing M.2 2280 SSD and also via the remaining unpopulated M.2 2280 SSD slot. This is great for those who might require more headroom down the line.

Owing to the compact 0.9-liter enclosure, there is no room for the luxury of discrete graphics. The Intel Xe G4 iGPU piggybacked on the Alder Lake CPU should be sufficient for non-intensive tasks, but to expect anything more would be overly ambitious. The possibility of adding an external GPU via the USB 4.0 port is present, although the performance impact will be far more severe than the faster OCuLink-based eGPU solutions.

As far as connectivity is concerned, the Peladn HO4 shines in this regard. The system includes a healthy array of ports, including a USB 4.0 Type-C port, dual USB 3.2 ports, dual USB 2.0 ports, HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.4, an audio combo jack, and dual 2.5 G RJ45 ethernet ports. Wireless communication is facilitated by WiFi 6.0 and Bluetooth 5.2.

Currently priced at just $279 for the 16 GB RAM + 512 GB SSD variant, the Peladn HO4 provides sufficient performance with excellent connectivity and expandability options, making this mini PC excellent for most non-intensive use cases.
