The OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T will no longer receive official software updates from OnePlus
Many consider the three-year-old OnePlus 6 and the OnePlus 6T to be the best devices the company launched. Those were simpler times when flagship launches weren't obfuscated with needless "Pro", "Plus", and "Max" suffixes. Those still holding on to their OnePlus 6/6T will be disappointed to know that official software support for phones has been discontinued, meaning they will not receive any major software updates or security patches, at least officially.
The announcement comes from a staff member on the official OnePlus forums. It was buried deep within a thread discussing the OxygenOS 11.1.2.2 for the OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T. The patch in itself is significant and does little more than tidy up a few loose ends and upgrade the Android security patch to November 2021. The thread is littered with a litany of complaints about pre-existing bugs that were yet to be addressed and newer ones resulting from the patch.
Although the quality and frequency of OnePlus' updates have been steadily going downhill, the company did keep its promise of keeping the OnePlus 6 and 6T with three major software updates. However, it took its own sweet time bringing Android 11 to both devices. Existing OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T owners can take solace in the fact that there is a vibrant developer community for both devices, so keeping the phone topped up with the latest security patches via custom ROMs is still an option.
