When Asus launched the ZenBook Pro Duo, reviewers both praised the utility of the second screen and lamented the non-ergonomic positioning. Now Asus has brought this innovation to their ROG Zephyrus line of thin gaming laptops, with the idea that this could change how you game.

The new Zephyrus Duo 15 represents the design and innovation pinnacle of the ROG family. The main selling feature is the 14.1-inch 4K (3840 x 1100) second display (ScreenPad Plus) which sits above the keyboard and below the main display. The ScreenPad Plus touch screen has been improved with an hinge that provides a slight 13-degree angle towards the user, addressing one of the most-cited complaints mentioned by reviewers. The lifting of the display also enhances airflow through the fans, an important function for a high-end gaming laptop that is only 2.4 kg and 21 mm thick.

The main 15.6-inch display comes in two options, so users can choose between a lower resolution 300 Hz refresh rate and 3 ms response time planel, or one with a 4K resolution that meets 100% of the Adobe RGB colour standard. the latter of which is Pantone validated for colour accuracy.

The Zephyrus Duo 15 comes equipped with an overclockable Intel i9-10980HK (8-core, 16-thread, up to 5.2 GHz) processor and Nvidia RTX 2080 Super. Asus has included their ROG GPU switch with the ability to select between G-Sync and Optimus, allowing users to choose between reduced-tearing or battery life. Although, don’t expect a laptop with top-level specifications and a 4K display to impress in the battery life department. Impressively for a gaming laptop, Asus has managed to fit a 90 Wh battery.

There are two other areas in which we would like to congratulate Asus. Their press material for the 2020 ROG models promotes how easy they are to upgrade. While upgrading components isn’t a new concept, seeing manufacturers approve of this practice is always a positive. Secondly, The Zephyrus Duo 15 (and all other ROG models with Intel 10th gen processors) use liquid metal as their thermal interface material. Asus claims this reduces CPU temperature by 8C, which is in line with previous independent tests on other models.

Rounding out the package are extras, such as an ESS Sabre DAC, and NVMe SSDs in RAID 0 (up to 2 TB total). In Europe, the ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 starts at €3,999 (US$4,430) including tax.
