The new Zero 2022 SR electric motorcycle has an operating system that allows you to purchase upgrades on the fly for your bike. Upgrades include increased battery capacity, which can be boosted from the standard 14.4 kWh to 20.9 kWh, and improved torque levels.

Zero, one of the biggest electric motorbike brands, has announced the 2022 SR, which allows you to upgrade its capabilities through in-app purchases. The Cypher Store, where you can buy upgrades to abilities such as torque or speed, will be available via the Zero app or online.

A mixture of comfort and performance features will be available via the app, such as extended range, on-dash navigation, faster charging and a parking mode. The cost of each element will depend on the model of your bike.

The 2022 SR comes with a 14.4 kWh lithium-ion battery, which can be upgraded to a maximum of 20.9 kWh through a combination of software and hardware changes. At the maximum capacity, Zero claims that you can travel 227 miles (~365 km) at lower speeds or 113 miles (~182 km) at 70 mph (~113 kph).

With 122 lb-ft (~152 Nm) of torque and 74 horsepower, the 2022 SR has a top speed of 104 mph (~167 kph). You can upgrade to up to 113 horsepower, which increases your maximum speed to 124 mph (~200 kph). The 2022 SR will be available to buy early next year, costing US$17,999 (~€15,580).
