Tesla will forecast Supercharger station wait and stall availability upon arrival
Apart from real-time Supercharger station status such as free stalls and out-of-order piles, Tesla keeps adding information to make the charging experience smoother and more predictable.
In fact, the new 2023.38 software update that is rolling out now will forecast the exact wait times that expect drivers upon arrival at a busy Supercharger station. Tesla will inform the driver upon navigating to a charging location how many stalls will be free when they arrive and if they will have to keep busy while waiting.
The calculations will be based on the expected timing of all the other drivers that Tesla knows are heading to the same Supercharger station so it will display how long could any eventual wait times be.
Needless to say, those predictions won't always be completely accurate. Those who haven't keyed in the Supercharger location, or are simply driving there in an electric vehicle from another brand without even bothering to launch the Tesla app, can throw off the equation at busy Supercharger stations pretty easily.
Now that Tesla V4 Superchargers have arrived in the US and are seemingly equipped with Magic Dock connectors compatible with other vehicles, such charging wait forecasts could be an increasingly risky endeavor.
Moreover, Tesla's EV market share in the US dipped to 50% for the first time recently, so it will be interesting to follow how Tesla's new Supercharger wait times and availability forecast feature fares in the future.
