Windshield damage can be expensive to fix, especially if a replacement is required. However, Tesla has quietly launched a new protection product to put its customers’ minds at ease. The company now offers a Windshield Protection plan costing from $12 per month in the US.
The Model 3 and Model Y windshield can be protected for only $12 per month and $15 for the Model S. The Model X subscription is priced at $23. There is information about the Cybertruck at this time.
The new protection plan offers one free front windshield replacement within a 12-month period (excluding rear window glass). It also covers unlimited chip and minor crack repairs, as well as recalibration of the camera system for Autopilot and Full Self-Driving (FSD). However, customers can access more windshield replacements by paying $100 per extra incident.
Tesla owners can subscribe to the plan through the company’s mobile app. However, they have to sign up within 30 days of their new or used car being delivered. Existing Tesla owners can opt in starting later in July, but their cars will need to be inspected at a service center. There is no long-term commitment requirement, as the subscription can be canceled at any time.
For context, windshield replacement on Tesla cars could cost more than $1,000. Tesla notes the plan does not cover damages from vandalism, collisions, and natural disasters.
