Tesla provides a glimpse at upcoming Semi Factory with production tipped to start by late 2025
Tesla has made public a render of its forthcoming Semi Factory, a dedicated facility that is set to be used for production of Tesla Semi electric trucks. In the picture, the word "Semi" on the roof of the building stands out prominently, along with numerous docking bays arranged along the facility's outer walls. Tesla decided to build the new plant close to the company's Nevada Gigafactory in a strategic move.
Dan Priestley, who heads the Tesla Semi program, also posted an image revealing the current state of construction at the site. It shows that Tesla is currently building the foundation. The trucks near the foundation provide a sense of scale, emphasizing just how impressive the dimensions of the planned facility are and confirming Tesla's ambitious production goals. The car maker previously expressed hopes of being able to produce up to 50,000 Semi trucks a year eventually.

The Tesla Semi program has faced significant challenges and delays since its inception. Initially introduced in 2017, the electric semi-truck was slated to hit the market in 2020. However, it wasn't until late 2022 that the vehicle officially entered production.
The start of mass production was a major milestone, however the program just keeps falling behind the schedule. As of October 2023, Tesla has manufactured only around 70 Semi trucks. These vehicles have been primarily used internally by Tesla and deployed by just a single major customer, PepsiCo.
In January 2023, Tesla announced plans to expand its Gigafactory Nevada facility to accommodate large-scale production of the Semi. That announcement was met with cautious enthusiasm. It took Tesla over a year to issue an update on the state of the project.
From what we know, preliminary on-site work started in early 2024. In April, the company provided a rough timeline, stating the factory would go online the following year with Tesla Semi production slated to commence by 'late 2025'.
