Tesla is hinting at possible new additions to its Cyber lineup. Chief designer Franz von Holzhausen said the EV company has considered building either a Cyber SUV or a smaller version of the Cybertruck, though he stopped short of confirming production plans. In his conversation on Bloomberg’s Hot Pursuit podcast, he stated that ‘wait and see is probably the best way to answer.’
Two factors make the remark seem more spot on than just a random comment. First, earlier this month, Tesla included scale models resembling new Cyber-series designs in its Sustainable Abundance video, further fueling speculation.
Secondly, Tesla has discontinued the most affordable Cybertruck model in North America. If a new Cyber SUV is introduced, it could replace the previous entry-level pickup truck. The Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive trim, introduced in April at a base price of $69,990, was removed from Tesla’s online configurator just five months after the launch.
Eligibility for the $7,500 U.S. federal tax credit effectively lowered the entry price to $62,490 before options. The Cybertruck model offered 350 miles of range, which is longer than the dual-motor AWD version, which has 325 miles, and the tri-motor Cyberbeast, which has 320 miles.
