On August 19th, Tesla added a new six-seat variant to the Model Y collection available in China. The automaker has now announced that backlogs are being cleared as deliveries have begun. Also, customers placing their orders now can expect their vehicles in the first week of October.
The new SUV has a base price of RMB 339,000 (about $47,460). In comparison, the older trims of the Model Y starts at RMB 263,500 (RWD) and RMB 313,500 (AWD).
The Model Y L has a range of 751 km thanks to an 82.0-kWh ternary lithium battery pack supplied by LG Energy Solution. This is an upgrade from the five-seat Model Y RWD, which has a CATL 62.5-kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack and can cover a distance of 593 km between charges.
The Model Y L also differs in dimensions from other variants. Tesla extended the chassis from 2,890 mm to 3,040 mm. The overall length of the L is 4,976 mm, compared to 4,797 mm for the original version. The width remains the same but the height is a few millimeters higher.
As Model Y L deliveries commence, Tesla will expect its sales to grow considerably. Vehicle insurance numbers have already begun to pick up, recording a 21.36 percent increase from last week's figure.
